When Monty Don wants a special compost to plant a Chinese Dogwood in a pot that will give good drainage, neutral to acid soil and plenty of nutrients, what does he use? He makes up a bespoke mix including his own garden compost, leaf mould, grit – and ericaceous wool-based compost! topped off with composted bracken. As he says “Don’t scrimp on the compost”.
